The incorporation of local produce helps to create a perfect balance of traditional fare alongside a genuine quest for innovation. Typical local gastronomy is readily available in the unique crotto areas, natural caves historically used for food preservation but where nowadays you can either dine al fresco at stone tables or indeed enjoy the traditional atmosphere within. In either case you can enjoy a plate of mixed cured meats, polenta with meats cooked on traditional hot stones, and local cheeses - all washed down with some splendid yet inexpensive wines.

The working of local pietra ollare or potstone for the production of pots/pans and decorative objects, and the weaving of flax and linen are just two of the many artisan activities to be discovered throughout Valchiavenna.

Getting closer to a sumptuously laid table in the Valchiavenna style there will be some products which will attract your attention as all of your senses will become involved: these are our salami and cold meat. Your sight will be absorbed by the colours, the brilliant or more intense shades of the meats; your smell will be intoxicated by their fragrances; your hearing will be whet by the clink of blades while they are cutting soft slices which, between the fingers and later in your mouth, will pamper your touch before enveloping your taste in a crescendo of emotions…..
